Product Introduction

Optical glass is used in various optical devices such as digital single lens reflex cameras, projectors, television cameras, automotive cameras, security cameras and medical devices. At OHARA, we meet all optical design needs with a line-up of over 150 types of optical glasses with the characteristics that enable optical devices to attain higher performances, miniaturization and cost reduction. The cutting-edge glass materials of the highest quality that OHARA provides support people around the world in their smiles and sense of wonder.

Feature

  • 01Abundant glass types

137 different types of optical glass for use in polished lenses and optical elements. For the purpose of global environmental conservation, OHARA uses no lead or arsenic in these 137 glasses. To distinguish these glasses from others containing lead or arsenic, the names for these 137 environmentally safe glass types begin with S-.

Physical properties

We have prepared drawings and charts that graphically present the refractive index and the Abbe number but also other properties important in the selection of optical glass, including partial dispersion ratio, coloring, specific gravity, temperature coefficient of the refractive index (ΔnT) and the linear expansion coefficient. They are available on the catalog download page.

Product Types

  • Glass Blocks

Blocks are annealed rectangular in shape, have slightly rippled fire-polished
    surfaces and corners are radiused.
Refractive index and Abbe number are adjusted to the standard value.

    Thickness 15 ~ 40mm Width and Length 50 ~ 200mm
  • Pressings(Reheat Pressings)

Reheat or hand pressings (RP) are blanks formed by manually pressing softened glass. We urge the customer to specify the following:
  • Saw cut Centerless Ground Cylindrical Blanks

These blanks are cut from a precisely ground rod formed on a center less grinding machine.
This process is very useful for making lenses that:
  • Dimensional Specified Blanks

Cut discs, cut rectangles, and cut prisms are blanks that are cut or core drilled from annealed strips or slabs.
These forms are generally specified when delivery is urgent and quantities are small.
  • Polished Balls

These lenses are polished into a spherical shape.
Polished balls can be used as a preform for glass mold lens.
  • Polished Lenses

The lenses have been subjected to double side polishing, centering and coating.
