With its DNA of reform, which we have retained for the 80 years since our establishment, OHARA continues its diverse efforts in the areas of optical glass, special glass and glass ceramics to offer cutting-edge materials with freely controllable properties and to seek every possibility for the future of glass as we moves towards the next generation.
With the “pursuit of the highest quality” which is in OHARA’s DNA and cutting-edge materials resulting from the full exertion of our material development capabilities, we will continue our customer-based development activities. R&D actions

To meet customers’ ever-present needs to cost cuts and improve performance, we conduct flexible material design and development. At the heart of these efforts is the composition technologies we have cultivated in years of material development and based on glass melting data from tens of thousands of material compositions.
That allows us to develop at least 150 different types of optical glass with a broad range of applications in many areas. We have developed special glass based on the technologies we developed working with optical glass. These technologies are applied in new areas, such as zero-expansion glass ceramics created with high homogeneity melting technology and nano-crystallization technology. In the future, we will continuously innovate in technology with our customers to broaden the potential of glass and create new products.

Development of optical products Traditionally, we mainly developed optical glass materials for lenses for cameras and other imaging optical systems. In recent years, applications for optical glass have expanded, and include automotive cameras, security cameras and ultra-bright projectors for projection mapping. There is demand for optical glass materials matched with different environments of use. We are working to develop glass materials that respond to the needs of our customers.
Development of special products We develop materials with the highest characteristics of glass and glass ceramics as well as the technologies to transforming them into the shapes our customers desire, primarily in the electronics sector.
